  • In 2018, a spike in e-cigarettes usage caused the U.S. Surgeon General to declare an advisory regarding the youth e-cigarette epidemic.

  • A recent study concluded that in 2017, around 11% of high school students vaped in the last month. In 2018, that percent jumped up to 21% of high schoolers who vaped in the last month. In 2019, that number rose to more than 27% in the last month.

  • Therefore, in just a two year period, the number of high school students who vaped in the last month went up 16%.

  • Similarly, in middle school students, from 2011 to 2019, the rate increased from 0.6% to 10.5%, respectively.

  • A study including both middle and high school students, states that 43% of young users try e-cigarettes because of the appealing flavors, making it the number one reason for the youth to try vaping for the first time.
